You will need to secure a tourist visa prior to your arrival. This is the only way they will allow you to go past immigration control… even for 1 day. Strictly speaking, once you pass through immigration and leave the airport you are no longer "in transit". For what it's worth, I think it will be way too much hassle to have to secure a visa (which isn't free, btw) for a day's visit. If you really want to see Paris, get a visa and stay a few days. There's lots to see for sure!

One of the problems with babies on aircraft is the pressure difference and not being able to make their ears pop. You know that annoying and sometimes painful feeling you get in your ear when you're in an airplane, and you yawn or something to make your ears "pop". Well babies don't know how to make their ears pop and a lot of time this is why they cry. There are some products and suggestions you can find online to help alleviate this problem. If you can keep her from having ear pain then she should be pretty quiet, unless she gets the usual baby upsets. Although it will probably be a red-eye flight, so she should just sleep right through. It may be a little rough for her at takeoff since it gets pretty loud, and she may cry, but once you get up to cruise altitude the constant drone of the engines should help lull her to sleep. Again check online, they make all sorts of products to help children on airplanes.

Also most international flights have a special area for people with babies, usually a row right behind a bulkhead that has a lot of room and a place to park a stroller and what not. I've seen people on flights put their babies in the seat for take off and landing and then transfer them to their comfy stroller for the duration of the flight. Usually you can also just change them right in the seat, and the flight attendants will be glad to help you out with the disposal of diapers. Just check with the airline and see what they have to say. I've had pretty good experiences with British Airways, but Virgin is also pretty good.

Whether it's affordable or not is a question only you can answer, but $1300 per ticket isn't unheard of for tickets from the west coast of the US to Europe during the summer, due to the high demand of the summer season.

EDIT: It should be noted that Ian M is quoting fares on Virgin Atlantic that have rather limited applicability — based on the information I've found, the fares are only available for purchase during certain periods in March and April, and not during the summer (which, the last I checked, begins towards the end of June just as it always does). The fare goes up by several hundred dollars on that route — as it does on most routes between Europe and the US — once you get into June, July and August. (Selecting random dates in July between LHR and LAX throught the VS website, in fact, returns a price that converts to about $820 US after tax — a far cry from "about $450."

Of course someone can find deals going out of alternate airports, and $820 is certainly better than paying over $1300. (The fact that he's quoting in dollars rather than euro is irrelevant.) And quoting a sale price for someone is all well and good, too, but it's hardly helpful to give someone a sale price only good in the spring when they've made it abundantly clear that they're not traveling until the summer.

I was in Disneyland Paris 2 years ago traveled from Paris from Gare Du Nord which is easy to get to from CDG. From Gare du Nord you need to get the RER A towards Marne La Vallee. Should be about 10 euro. You might also be treated to a show from some Romanian musicians who come on the train with instruments and amps, quite funny in small doses.

For food in the parks, its Disney so its going to be a little bit pricey especially for bottles of water expect to pay over 2 euro

There's lots of choice when it comes to food, so whatever budget you give yourself you wont go hungry, I'm sorry I can't be more specific but it does vary from place to place. However I would steer clear of Planet Hollywood, it's overpriced and not very good. We did the wild west show, food was not great but was a fun night.

We also stayed in the Radisson, I found it to be very expensive food for food so I didn't have anything but the breakfast included most of which I did not think was very good. It is a very nice hotel apart from that.

I suspect that after two weeks in Niger (or anyplace in subSaharan Africa) you're going to be exhausted and more in need of some simple relaxation than two days of frenetic sightseeing.

I suggest you take it easy and spend most of your time enjoying the good food and convivial cafes of Paris.

The "must see" sights are so well known that I'm sure you already know what they are.

Notre Dame and Sacre Coeur, the two most famous churches and the Eiffel tower and Arc de Triomphe because you've seen them in almost every movie ever made that is set in Paris.

A boat ride along the Seine on one of the Bateau Moche is another obligatory tourist thing to do. So as is wandering around Montmartre (after seeing Sacre Couer) and seeing all the really terrible art being sold in the Place de Teatre and checking out the bookstalls along the Seine after seeing Notre Dame.

One sees these things mainly because they are emblematic of Paris which is one of the great cultural icons of Western civilization. Books, movies, plays, and music all refer to them and your friends will expect you to have seen them and forever after you will be able to say to people while watching any one of a thousand movies or TV shows…"I've been there."

This is not to say that they aren't beautiful or historically important or otherwise interesting in their own right but that is the primary reason why tourists go look at them.

EDIT: I notice that your trip to Africa is on a Christian Mission (now I'm sure you'll be exhausted). But let me add one more place to see as I hope that a person who does this type of work is truly a spiritual person.

After you see Notre Dame walk along the path on the side of the church towards the back and continue past it and across the street to the Memorial to the Deportation. This memorial is dedicated to the 200,000 people who were deported from France to concentration camps in Germany during WWII. The interior contains 200,000 lit crystals, each commemorating a life lost.

In the overall carnage of World War II, these are only a tiny percent of the dead but even this number is shattering to contemplate. The visual representation helps one grasp the terrible number.

Over the exit the words "Pardonne N'oublie pas" (Forgive but do not forget) appear.

Say a prayer that men may someday cease this sort of horror which is still happening today.
