Southwest Airlines - Cheap Fares

Southwest Airlines is a great option for air travel. While low cost fares are routine for Southwest, they also offer deep discounts and many special deals and programs. You may have encountered Southwest deals while using the usual travel discount sites, but the best bet may be to search their own website first. You can hardly beat the Rapid Rewards program Southwest has for regular flyers on their carrier. Earning a free ticket only requires a mere eight round trips for budget fares, and those who use the Business Select Class need only four round trips to earn a free flight!

There is also the companion ticket program called Rapid Rewards Companion Tickets. A member can take along a companion for free! All they must pay is the mandatory Federal airport tax and local tax for these complimentary tickets. Couples and business associates may find this especially desirable. Unlike other air carriers, Southwest does not load rewards travel with many restrictions and tickets are handled like regular ones. About the only difference is that you don’t get a roundtrip credit on a free or companion flight. There is no short expiration date to worry about and can be used even at the last minute, requiring only one hour before a flight departs to be valid.

The website for Southwest has a great many other specials in addition to the great rewards program. There is a “Destination of the Day” offered at a great price and this always is an especially low fare. Prices may be as low as fifty percent of the usual fare for these daily specials and can be used for advance purchase in most cases. It’s worth checking out each day! Southwest also offers a special price class called “Wanna Get Away?” that can also be half or sometimes even less than other fares on the same flight. For these specials seating is limited and unlike regular fares tickets can not be refunded. They can however be exchanged for credit for future travel. These seats are only available directly on the website and are the cheapest “routine” fares offered.

You can also sign up for what is called the Southwest Ding! system. These are the best of all deals and you install software on your computer for these very time sensitive deals. The software is quick to install and has no adware or spyware to bug you. Best of all it is compatible with Mac and nearly any PC operating system for easy use. It is also a fairly small program that won’t eat much disk space. A small Ding! Icon will alert you visually and audibly when a special is available. A small envelope appears for you to click on and the sound alert can be silenced if you prefer. Clicking on the icon takes you directly to the special on the Southwest website. You only get alerts for destinations that you choose. You enter your home zip code and can load up to 10 destinations on your alert list. You can also change the list as many times as you like. All offers on Ding! are great bargains. While Ding! Doesn’t yet come for wireless devices, you can use it at work or at home and mostly will not have firewall problems although support will help you if you do. The system has a very helpful FAQ page as well. Ding! is also very easy to remove should you choose to discontinue using it. Don’t get too upset if you miss an offer since new ones come up quite frequently. Ding! has such low fares it is really worth giving it a trial.

If you don’t want to use Ding! and install software, there is an e-mail alert program called “Click’n’Save.” You simply sign up and get special offers and deals in your email on your computer or e-mail enabled wireless device. You need not be part of any other program to use Click’n’Save. Sign up for this program is free and simple. You may not get quite as great deals as with Ding! but there is no need to install a thing. . Southwest fares change with the seasons and there are always discounts for 14 day and 21 day advance purchases. Special offers now can be even cheaper than driving with current gas prices, like Houston to San Antonio for a mere $29 each way or the same fare from Dallas to Tulsa as examples. Even if you don’t care to use Ding! or Click’n’Save you can find these specials just by checking often for the specials right on the Southwest Airlines website. Southwest is well known for friendly and professional staff and customer service but perhaps they should be even better known as the home of really cheap fares with no tricks and few hassles. It can be more fun to fly when you know you have gotten the best possible deal with Southwest

That’s amazing! It always seem easier to draw on the computer then on paper. Really now, to color like that makes me curious, though everyone’s style of art is different.

Refundable fares are very lenient. If you decide not to fly anymore, you can request for a refund. If you're a business traveler and you tend to change your schedule a lot, that's the best type of ticket for you because you can have it changed without any fees at all (that's why it costs more than the other types of fares). The Internet fares (which I believe are the cheapest) are very restrictive – they will not allow you to change your flights. They're not refundable in anyway.
Airlines tend to create these fares to help travelers money-wise.If you will notice, some fares are reasonable but you can only travel on certain days of the week (think – supply and demand). Other fares will require you to buy 7 or 10 days in advance to avail of the low rate otherwise, you'll end up paying more. Hope this helps:)

Price at time of purchase.
Seats are guaranteed, but not assigned.
And like any other airlines, they also overbook flights, so they will put you on the next one.

When you see the fare for $59 is this from your origin city ? of course a fare from Phoenix to San Diego may be $59 but a fare from Islip (NY) to San Diego may be much more such as $119 each way. The Search engine on the Southwest Web Site allows you to see all available fares for a given date. The current ad on the Southwest Web Site says one fares start at $59 to Southwest California (San Diego or Ontario) but remember this varies based on departure city.

If you have not done so, download "Ding" which are usually Southwest's best fares. You will download a small file on your PC that allows you to receive e-mails with deeply discounted fares. A recent example, I flew Chicago (MDW) to Denver for $90 R/T ! The fares that you receive are random and often heavily restricted to certain flights, times etc. but if you are flexible you can get some amazing deals.

You can click on the "Flexible Fares" tab on Southwest's Web Site this will help you find the lowest available fares for your travel dates.

You can download Ding from SWA's Web Site at http://www.southwestairlines.com.

I disagree strongly with others answers's negative comments about Southwest. As someone who flys Southwest on a regular basis I find SWA's employees to be the friendliest in the air, helpful and fun. Southwest's frequency of flights and on-time performance are great.

Best of luck finding a great fare to California.

Their fares are released usually 4-5 months in advance. Normally its only 4 months. Their fare structure is pretty much set, they only offer a certain number of internet fares, so those will go fast. Just keep checking back, but don't fret. You still have plenty of time. Most people arent booking this far in advance. Depending on what your cities are, they are not always the cheapest. Check the other major US carriers to know what they are offering right now to compare. Whatever the lowest Internet Fare is for that city pair should be relitively close. They have been going through fare raising lately *finally* and their fares could go up like any other carrier. Personally they are not my favorite airline, but I worked for another carrier. To the industry they are the Wal-Mart of the skies, one of the nicer terms we used.

E-mail me your city pairs and dates and I'll let you know what the rest of the industry is posting. I have found better deals on other airlines or fares that are comparable. If you are worried and you want a good fare and want to book now, you may want to consider the other airlines to secure a good fare and go ahead and have your tickets.

to law above me- they were here first? Who is they? If you are refering to the Olmec, Izapa, Teotihuacan, Maya, Zapotec, Mixtec, Huastec, Tarascan, "Toltec" and Aztec indigenous groups that were the first "Mexicans" then I have news for you: approx 95% of the idigenous populations died from disease and war when the spanish came over. look it up. Today's Mexicans are mostly of Spanish descent (infact only about 11% of the Mexican population is of true indigenous blood) and therefore we have a much right to the land as they do.

Diana- just HOW MUCH money has Mexico contributed over the yrs to aid 3rd world countries? the mexican officials down there are far more greedy than americans
