Skip the travel websites and go straight through the airline, that is where you will find the best deals. Here are some good websites, that actually work:

They have the best deals, without the trickery of say expedia

That’s amazing! It always seem easier to draw on the computer then on paper. Really now, to color like that makes me curious, though everyone’s style of art is different.

Cebu Pacific offers the cheapest airfares year round.

Philippine Airlines has this new travel class called "econolight", which is really indeed affordable, but there are few drawbacks: only maximum of 8 days stay for regional flights (within Asia), only 15 kgs of baggage allowance (normally it's 20 kg for Mabuhay/Economy class), and no foods served. So it's basically like PAL's low-cost carrier travel class.

Read more about the econolight class here:

Or, as the other answerer said, you could try going to Hong Kong via Macau. From Macau, Hong Kong is just about 1 hour ferry ride away.

No doubt airfare and hotel are two biggest guys that eat up most of your budget for visiting Hk. The smartest choice on saving is to avoid going when all others want to go, unless you don't mind it's packed with locals and tourists everywhere.

So here is what I think you should AVOID:
For airfare (LA-HK,round trip falls into these periods)
Xmas / NYD (mid Dec-mid Jan)
CNY (usually mid Jan-mid Feb. depending on the lunar calendar each year)
Easter (late mar-mid Apr)
Summer season (mid Jun-mid Sept)

For Hotel, AVOID
Xmas / NYD (mid Dec-early Jan)
Summer Season (July and August)
The tricky period: Major conventions, Business fairs/shows (pick up in Mar. hot in April, May, and Sept, die down mid Oct)
Definitely NOT period:
May 1st holidays (a.k.a. Golden week in China)
(1 week bf and af May 1)
Chinese National Day holidays (another Golden Week in China) (1wk bf/af Oct 1)

K.I.S.S., visit in Nov. till early Dec.. Not much rain, clear sky, temp is around 70-75 F, low in humidity. More important, the cheapest Airfare in the year, low rate in Hotel rooms, more availability on space from both. Your back up plan will be in late Feb till March.

Hmm, what do you mean they don't have flights scheduled? You should definitely be able to find something… I work in the travel industry, and I always refer my clients and my friends to the website BookMe. You can compare prices on all the major travel websites and save lots of money. Good luck, and check out the link below.

Sorry, a quick search on Kayak shows $900 at the very lowest. Check some travel sites in Hong Kong instead or use frequent flyer miles if you or any relatives have any.

Not many cheap flights now. I suggest you keep an eye out on the internet for offers. Alternatively you could choose air turkey, i found them to be the cheapest it will cost maybe 400 – 450 pounds one way. Note that i flew to Ireland though so not sure about price from the UK but they were the cheapest i found without special offers

Expedia is usually the best place to find deals. If you have tried it, try it. If you have, then that's probably the best price unless you change your itinerary.

The cheapest way to go to HK from the Mainland is to take a domestic flight to Shenzhen and then cross over to HK or else if you want to fly directly, then the minimum fare from Beijing to HK is about RMB 1490 and high fare RMB 2040,one way.
