The best way is to go to a site with lots of different companies; like this one http://www.cheap-airfares-1.com/ and compare prices.

A few minutes of searching (making sure you include heavyweights like expedia and kayak) will turn up the dirt cheap airline tickets you're after…of course, it will depend how you define "dirt cheap"

Try the airline's website since they will offer specials the travel websites do not have. You may also look into flying into alternative airports. L.A. has more than 1 airport. Instead of flying into LAX, look into flying into Ontario, Orange County or Burbank. Sometimes it is cheaper.
